Full Professorship (W3) for Forest Genetics
in the Institute of Forest Sciences.
Fulltime position, Start-date: 01.10.2020

This professorship is also particularly suitable for highly qualified early career researchers.

This professorship represents the field of "Forest Genetics" in research and teaching. The main task of the professorship will be genetic and epigenetic analysis of DNA and RNA from trees using bioinformatic tools and methods from different research fields as well as the development of new bioinformatic tools. This includes genome research using molecular-biological, biotechnological and bioinformatic methods to identify relationships between the information stored in the genomes and plant attributes. Other possible research areas are ecological forest genetics including analyses of the effects of environmental factors and anthropogenic influences such as forest fragmentation and forest management on the genetic composition (and diversity) of tree populations and the assessment of plant diversity through genetic analyses such as bar-coding and metagenomics.

A special commitment to teaching in forestry and environmental science programs is expected. The emphasis in teaching is on forest botany, genetic principles and ecological genetics, breeding and multiplication of trees, epigenetics.

The ideal candidate has:

  • competence in genetics, forest botany, bioinformatics
  • experience in the identification of adaptation-related gene structures and or mechanisms of epigenetics on a molecular basis
  • an interdisciplinary and international research profile

Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected.

The Chair of Forest Genetics is endowed by the Stihl foundation.
