EPICUR Project Manager (w/m/d)
Part-time position (50 %), Start-date: At the earliest possible date.

For the European Universities Initiative, the University of Freiburg and seven partners in six countries joined forces as EPICUR (European Partnership for Innovative Campus Unifying Regions). In the pilot phase, our alliance will develop teaching and learning formats geared to a new generation of European citizens. Liberal Arts and Sciences Education (LE) is at the center of EPICUR.


In EPICUR, we will develop collaborative teaching and learning formats across the partners, including two study tracks (in European identities and in Natural and societal sustainability) as well as a Track Core program. This Track Core is related to the Liberal Arts and Sciences Core curricula at University College Freiburg (UCF) and at Amsterdam University College (AUC) and will include (1) intercultural competencies, (2) language training, (3) reflections on knowledge and science.


In this context, the University invites applications for a Project Management position (50%, TVL E13) at UCF.

The successful candidates will be (co-)responsible for

  • the development and implementation of the Track Core – at UCF, in Freiburg, and in collaboration with the EPICUR partners (e.g. the Center Humans and Technology and the Centre for Cultural and General Studies at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, or the Centre de Compétences Transfrontalières at the l’Université de Haute-Alsace),
  • the coordination and integration of the Track Core with the abovementioned two study tracks,
  • the coordination and integration of the Track Core with the Liberal Arts and Sciences Core curricula at UCF and AUC,
  • contributing to teaching in the Track Core, e.g. with a focus on interdisciplinarity and / or methodologies (teaching load of up to 4 contact hours per week and semester – Semesterwochenstunden),
  • networking with the EPICUR partners and internal and external knowledge transfer.

We expect candidates to have

  • a strong academic background with an MA or MSc, preferably with a PhD, in a field related to the UCF Liberal Arts and Sciences Core Curriculum (e.g. Science and Technology Studies and/or Philosophy and Theory of Science),
  • teaching and research experience related to interdisciplinarity and / or methodologies,
  • teaching and project management experience in higher education – in Germany and ideally in a further EPICUR partner country (Austria, France, Greece, Netherlands, Poland),
  • experience in a LE setting or at least a clear understanding of the LE educational philosophy,
  • strong intercultural competencies as well as excellent German and English proficiency,
  • organizational skills, creativity, and flexibility in international and interdisciplinary contexts,
