| Ausführliche Beschreibung: | Sprecher im Kolloquium wird Herr Dr. Riccardo Strobino sein. Dr. Strobino ist Dozent an der Universität Cambridge und gegenwärtig wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter des Forschungsprojekts “Major Issues and Controversies of Arabic Logic and Philosophy of Language” an der Ruhr-Universität, Bochum. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind arabische Logik, Philosophie und Sprache. An dieser Stelle seien von seinen Veröffentlichungen exemplarisch genannt: „Avicenna’s Use of the Arabic Translations of the Posterior Analytics and the Ancient Commentary Tradition.”, Oriens 40 (2012), S. 355–389; „Avicenna on the Indemonstrability of Definition.”, Documenti e studi sulla tradizione filosofica medievale 21 (2010), S. 113–163.
Zusammenfassung des Vortrags: In late medieval logic, discussions of issues pertaining to what we nowadays call epistemic logic were treated for the first time in a systematic fashion, and came to be quite a common subject of writing within texts uniquely devoted to the topic. In my talk, I shall present some key ideas concerning the way in which 14th-century logicians dealt with inferences involving the modifiers to know and to doubt and illustrate the case through a number of examples (William Heytesbury, Peter of Mantua, Paul of Venice). |
