Recent Awards

The University of Freiburg produces outstanding achievements in science and research, and many of our researchers are decorated with research awards each year. 	2013 High Energy and Particle Physics Prize Research teams led by the professors Dr. Gregor Herten, Dr. Karl Jakobs, and Dr. Markus Schumacher (ATLAS and CMS experiments at CERN) received the High Energy and Particle Physics Prize for their work in the area of Particle Physics.

	2013 Südwestmetall Prize Dr. Benjamin Lemke received the 2013 Südwestmetall Prize for his work in the area of Microsystems Engineering.

	2013 Theodor Frerichs Prize Dr. Soeren Lienkamp received the Theodor Frerichs Prize for his work in the area of Kidney Development.

	2013 Distinguished Scientist Award Prof. Dr. Elmar Hellwig received the Distinguished Scientist Award for his work in the area of Caries Research.

	2013 Duchenne-Erb Prize Prof. Dr. Rudolf Korinthenberg received the Duchenne-Erb Prize for his scientific work in the area of Muscular Diseases.

	2013 Prize for Interactive Computer Simulation The research group of Prof. Dr. Dietmar Kröner (Dr. Robert Klöfkorn, Tobias Malkmus, David Nies, Dr. Martin Nolte, Axel Pfeiffer, and Theresa Strauch) achieved second place in the "Competition of Modules for the Open Source MPE Exhibition" for their scientific work in the area of Applied Mathematics.

	2013 Hans Kilian Prize Prof. Dr. Hans Joas received the Hans Kilian Prize for his scientific life's work in the area of Social Sciences.

	2013 Johann Georg Zimmermann Medal Prof. Dr. Charlotte Niemeyer received the Johann Georg Zimmermann Medal for her work in the area of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology.

	2013 Robotics and Automation Society Early Career Award Dr. Cyrill Stachniss received the Robotics and Automation Society Early Career Award for his work in the area of Computer Science.

	2012 Research Prize for Young Forest Scientists Dr. Patrick Pyttel received the Thurn and Taxis Research Prize for his work in the area of Forest Science.

	2012 Central German Archaeology Prize Edith Schmidt received the Central German Archaeology Prize for her work in the area of Archaeology.

	2012 "Prix Bartholdi" Alexander Potthoff (de) received the "Prix Bartholdi" for his work in the area of International Economic Relations.

	2012 Innovation Endowment Fund of the University of Freiburg 2012 „Research Seed Capital (RiSC)“ 2012 Priority Program 1623 (DFG) Dr. Stefan Schiller (de) received three distinctions for his work in the area of Macromolecular Chemistry.

	2012 ERC Advanced Grant Prof. Dr. Michael Reth (en) received an ERC Advanced Grant for his work in the area of Molecular Immunology.

	2012 „IBM Faculty Award“ Prof. Dr. Dirk Neumann (de) received the "IBM Faculty Award" for his work in the area of Business Informatics.

	2012 PHOENIX Pharmacy Science Prize Prof. Dr. Dr. Klaus Aktories (de) and his team received the PHOENIX Pharmacy Science Prize for their work in the area of Pharmacology.

	2012 German High Tech Champion Prof. Dr. Marie-Pierre Laborie (de) received the distinction of German High Tech Champion in the category Green Buildings for her work in the areas of Materials Science and Forest Science.

	2012 German Forest Science Prize Dr. Dirk Schindler (de) received the German Forest Science Prize for his work in the area of Meteorology.

	2012 German Measurement Technology Prize Dr. Martin Kasemann (de) received the German Measurement Technology Prize for his work in the area of Microsystems Engineering

	2012 Helmut Holzer Research Prize Dr. Christoph Neumann-Haeflin (de) received the Helmut Holzer Research Prize for his work in the area of Medicine.

	2012 ERC Starting Grant Prof. Dr. Andreas Diefenbach (en) received an ERC Starting Grant for his work in the area of Medical Microbiology.

	2012 ERC Starting Grant Prof Dr. Oliver Einsle and Dr. Markus Roth (en) received an ERC Starting Grant for their work in the areas of Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics.


	2011 State Research Prize Prof. Dr. Peter Auer (de) received the State Research Prize for his work in the area of Linguistics.

	2012 Nietzsche Prize Prof. Dr. Andreas Urs Sommer (de) received the Nietzsche Prize for his work in the area of Philosophy.

	2012 Willem C. Vis Moot Julian Egelhof, Carolin Fretschner, Franziska Härle, Annika Laudien, Constantin Meimberg, Bastian Nill, Sita Rau, and Monika Thull (de) won the Willem C. Vis Moot Competition for their work in the area of Law.

	2012 Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize Dr. Pieter Samyn (en) received the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize for his work in the area of Forest and Environmental Science.

	2011 German Continuing Education Prize Prof. Dr. Josef Guttmann (de) received the German Continuing Education Prize for his work in the area of Continuing Education.
