Reopening of the “Haus zur Lieben Hand”
The staff dining hall in the house “Zur Lieben Hand” reopened under new management on June 9th, 2008. The new chef, Ekkehard Böttcher, offers freshly prepared, seasonal cuisine in the relaxed ambience of the painstakingly renovated house. In addition to a standard menu including meat and fish dishes, fresh salads, and light entrées, guests can choose from a variety of mouthwatering daily specials with market-fresh products.
The house “Zur Lieben Hand” has always been a place for informal get-togethers in the heart of Freiburg. The tavern served for a time as a meeting place for the Workers’ Education Association. In 1938 it opened to the general public and soon became popular with the citizens of Freiburg. Since 1990 the house has served under several owners as a dining hall for faculty, staff, and students of the University of Freiburg. This new concept has transformed the house, which is situated right in the middle of campus yet in quiet surroundings, into an convivial setting for informal meetings between professors, students, and guests of the university as well as for conferences or academic discussions.

The staff dining hall in the House “Zur Lieben Hand” is open Mondays through Fridays from 11:30 a.m. till 2:30 p.m.. Reservations taken.
