University Freiburg Launches New Master Online Program in „Photovoltaics“
The University of Freiburg has launched its new master online program in „Photovoltaics,“ offered in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE). The 16 students enrolled in the program hail from renowned international corporations and universities.
The Master Online Photovoltaics is the sixth new online degree program at the university since winter semester 2007/08. Master online means that students can adjust the course of study to fit their individual needs: They can study on the train, airplane, or from the comfort of their own home, and need only to come to Freiburg for short on-campus phases with practical courses and seminars.
The flexible blended learning concept and profound technological approach of the Master Online Photovoltaics place it in a class of its own. The accredited degree program offers qualifications in the areas of physics, technology, systems engineering, and the business fundamentals of photovoltaics in over 20 lecture courses, seminars, and practical courses. Graduates earn the academic degree „Master of Science.“
The program unites the theoretical depth expected of a master of science program with hands-on experience and industrial relevance. The key to this unique combination of theory and practice is the close cooperation of renowned scientists from the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) and professors from the University of Freiburg.
Most of the practical training is carried out in the laboratories of the Fraunhofer ISE in Freiburg. The degree program is intended for professional academics who want to receive additional qualifications in the area of photovoltaic technology while pursuing their careers.
The mixture of distance studies and short on-campus phases allows students great flexibility, and the master of science degree from the University of Freiburg opens up excellent career opportunities for graduates.
For the inaugural year of the Master of Science Photovoltaics the University of Freiburg has admitted 16 students from around the world, many of them employees of prominent corporations and universities from Germany and abroad who are completing the program parallel to their jobs. The students are from Germany, the USA, Egypt, China, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Singapore, and Spain.
