How Does the Funding Reach the Research?

Doctoral students searching for an appropriate scholarship or third-party funding for their dissertation can turn to the International Graduate Academy (IGA). The IGA also advises professors who wish to apply for funding for a new research training group or doctoral research group or to receive an extension for an existing group. Medical researchers receive support from the Department of Research Management at the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Medicine. Projects with partners from the private sector are coordinated by the Center for Technology Transfer (ZFT).
Science Support Centre (SSC)
The Science Support Centre (SSC) advises researchers of the University of Freiburg who wish to secure third-party funding for their project. It is possible to apply for such funding from national or international institutions and private companies. One of the SSC’s main duties is thus to provide information to researchers on potential funding programs, support them in putting together their applications, and advise them on legal issues. In addition, the SSC helps prepare and realize joint research initiatives with companies.
Research Database
In 1996 the University of Freiburg set up a research database which was used initially by the University Medical Center. Since 1997 the database has been used to document and present the research activities of the entire university. The Freiburg Research Database allows recent research reports to be accessed directly on the Internet. In 1999 the Freiburg Bibliographic Directory was integrated into the research database, and in 2007 the content of the directory was assimilated into the category „Who is Who“ on the university homepage.
