Where Does Research Take Place?

The research institutions of the University of Freiburg include:

• the international research institute FRIAS, an institution made possible by the University of Freiburg’s success in the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Governments,
• 21 graduate schools and research training groups, which offer scholarships for doctoral students and courses to complement their dissertation work,
• 10 collaborative research centers, which enable a group of researchers to collaborate for an extended period of time on an interdisciplinary research program (funded by the German Research Foundation),
• 3 priority programs, and
• 18 research centers and more than 100 additional research institutes at the faculties.
